What happens when you can't control the Nile?

Well, I'm sure there is many thing to do when the Nile gets out of hand, meaning it could over flood, or not flood enough. The main thing Egyptians do is build a network of irrigation canals and ditches to carry water to and from fields. To get water all throughout the surrounding Egypt/Nile area. Which when they lived in the time 5500 B.C. the Nile was probably very hard to control without the great technology they and ourselves have now.
